Active Trades/Current Positions
Below is a list of trades that are still active. When I exit the trade, the completed trade will be marked Closed and remain on this page for a week. After one week the closed trade will be moved to “Trade History.” The “Trade History” will be a list of all my trades for the current year, with an explanation, if needed, of the trade and any Adjustment Trades. Adjustment Trades are trades I make to hedge, cover, partially exit or any other move I might make to better my position. These adjustment moves are me reacting to a move in the market both desirable and undesirable. The road to success is not always a smooth road. Sometimes you hit bumps, dips and detours, you must make adjustments. These road hazards cause you to make moves. These moves I call “Adjustment Trades.”
Below is an example and explanation of my option order format. You will see this throughout this website.
Sell to Open 10 FB 12/18/2015 $110 C @ $1.50 (+$1500)
Sell to Open – Indicates this is an order to sell an option to open a position.
10 – Indicates the number of contracts involved in the order. Each contract is 100 shares.
FB – Indicates the ticker symbol of the underlying stock. FB is FaceBook.
12/18/2015 – Indicates the option’s Expiration Date.
$110 – Indicates the Option’s Strike Price.
C – Indicates that it’s a Call Option. If it was a P it would indicate a Put Option.
@ $1.50 – Indicates the Premium of the option. In this case the option seller would receive $1.50 Premium. This order is 10 contracts which represents 1000 shares of stock. The premium received by the seller for this option is $1.50 X 1000 shares for a total of $1500.
(+$1500) – This is the total premium received for the option on 10 contracts, $1.50 X 1000 Shares. If this was a “Buy to Close” order the amount in the parenthesis would be (-$) negative because you are spending money to buy an option to close a position.
There are 4 basic types of Option orders.
Buy to Open – Buy an option to open a position.
Buy to Close – Buy back an option you sold to close the position.
Sell to Open – Sell an option to open a position.
Sell to Close – Sell an option you previously bought to close the position.
